We left Whitehorse on August 24. We stopped at the Yukon Transportation Museum. Outside the museum is the world's largest weathervane which is a retired full size DC 3 plane. It's mounted on a rotating pedestal so that it moves with even a small breeze.

We also saw an Overland Train which is an off-road diesel electric land train could travel across snow and tundra and was used to transport materials in this area in the 1950s and 60s. You can see how huge it is next to the motorhome on the right side

We also made a stop at Miles Canyon. This is a narrow deep channel of the Yukon river with a cool pedestrian suspension bridge.

From there we traveled about 700 miles over the next couple of days. We continued on the Alcan before turning off onto the Cassier Highway. This is the other route to/from Alaska through Canada. It's beautiful and even more remote in sections that the Alcan with hours between stops for gas or food. A Red Fox crossed in front of us and he sat politely for the picture below. We also saw a few bears crossing the road but we weren't fast enough to take pictures

We detoured about an hour to the towns of Stewart (Canada) and Hyder (Alaska) which are only about a mile apart along the 4th largest fjord in the world. This called the Portland Canal This serves as a natural border between Canada and Alaska. Fun fact: Hyder is the only US border crossing ihat doesn't have a US customs crossing station. You can drive through freely going into Hyder but need to stop at the Canadian border station on your way back to Stewart and get passports checked.

It's a really beautiful drive with rugged peeks, glaciers and many waterfalls along the way.

We had hoped to see the bears at the Fish Creek wildlife station site in Hyder didn't have any luck. We did see the many salmon that return here to spawn. Grizzly and black bears here regularly to feast on them but no luck for us in seeing them here.
